Arsenic In Punjab’s Drinking Water, Supreme Court Alarms – Movingtrend

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has expressed great attention to the increasing quantity of the arsenic in drinking water of Punjab. Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, pointed out the performance of the Punjab Chief Secretary.

The deadly increase of the arsenic level in Drinking water, on Tuesday a three member bench of Supreme Court (SC) chaired by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, warns the Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Saeed over the bad quality of water in Punjab province.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan questioned: ” What is the Punjab government doing for health and education? What is the state and quality of water provided in hospitals, schools, and colleges? Private colleges are taking heavy fees; what is the quality of water they are providing to the students?”

Now Supreme Court is paid lot of attention to the Water contamination issue, and asked the Chief Secretary to postpone all his activities and attend the bench for specific period. As the water contamination case are being heard in Lahore.

Earlier this, Supreme Court had addressed the Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah concerning the drinking water quality throughout the Sindh, and also had pointed out the miserable sanitation conditions of the Province.

The CJP, Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Ijazul Ahsan, visited the Mayo Hospital Lahore and they were instructed regarding the hospital’s offered facilities to its patients. Chief Justice also instructed the superintendent to install the filtration plants in hospital premise, to facilitate the patients and visitors.

Chief Justice of Pakistan warned the chief secretory that any kind of negligence in drinking water related issue will not be tolerated. And Punjab government should make possible to provide the safe drinking water in educational institutes and hospitals.

Arsenic is grayish-white element, vaporized when heated and formed poisonous compounds. Long term exposure to arsenic in drinking water can cause cancer. Now, the drinking water of the Punjab contains dangerous level of Arsenic in it.
