Amazon the retail giant has announced on Monday that it has purchased the Global Television Rights for the Lord of the Rings. Lord of the Rings based on the best-selling Novel by the J.R.R Tolkien. This series will be produced at Amazon Studio combined with the Tolkien State and Trust, and publishers are the Harper Collin and Warner Bros. Amazon has paid $250 million for the Global Television rights of the LOTR.
Story set in Middle-Earth and discovers new Storyline earlier the Fellowship of the Ring
The Amazon’s the Lord of the Rings series will be set in Middle-Earth and discover the new storyline earlier The Fellowship of the Ring. This deal contains some extra offshoot of the series. According to the Deadline, the Amazon has paid $250 million for the Global Television rights of the Lord of the Ring. All other costs like Production, development, actors and editing are excluding. It may have been charged $100 to $150 million per season. But Amazon is comfortable for this spending.
Head of the Scripted series for Amazon Studios, Sharon Tal Yguado, said in statement,
”The Lord of the Rings is a cultural phenomenon that has captured the imagination of generations of fans through literature and the big screen.” “We are honored to be working with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line on this exciting collaboration for television and are thrilled to be taking The Lord of the Rings fans on a new epic journey in Middle Earth.”
A representative for the Tolkien Estate and Trust and HarperCollins, Matt Galsor said in statement,
We are delighted that Amazon, with its long-standing commitment to literature, is the home of the first-ever multiseason television series for The Lord of the Rings.” “Sharon and the team at Amazon Studios have exceptional ideas to bring to the screen previously unexplored stories based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s original writings.
